Meet two of our featured volunteers: Wayne and Diane Long
“We are Wayne and Diane Long. We have been involved with Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley through the Trucksville United Methodist Church for 20 years, who has gathered other volunteer drivers for Meals on Wheels for over 40+ years.
Trucksville United Methodist Church, along with other churches, recruited volunteers from their congregations over the years to help deliver meals just 1 day a month. It since has gone by the wayside for a lot of the other churches, so we wanted to appeal to other churches personally to join us at this time in picking a day to help out Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley.
We got involved because our family members just always volunteered! They were examples to us as to what or how to give back to our community. We picked up their positions/legacies where they left off. Volunteering was just always part of both of our families, and it has been our pleasure to deliver the route of the Back Mountain and Harvey’s Lake area all these years. But more help is needed.
What keeps us continuing to volunteer with Meals on Wheels is that we are sometimes the only person that the clients, who are receiving the meals, are seeing all day, and sometimes for many days. We wouldn’t want to disappoint them by not showing up to check in on them. They depend on seeing us, and it makes us feel good supplying food to those who can not make it themselves.”
